Audlem representatives will be at a meeting on Thursday, February 12th, in Northwich to discuss the Weaver Valley Regional Park's ambitious plans for investment in tourist and other facilities in the area which stretches from Audlem in the south to Frodsham in the north.

The Weaver Way, now signposted along the canal in Audlem, is an important part of the project and will eventually provide a route from Audlem right across Cheshire for walkers and cyclists.

Detailed proposals for Audlem have been produced by the Regional Park following consultation with many individuals and local groups last year. A representative from the Weaver Valley, Chris Mahon, spoke at last year's Annual Village Meeting in June. He described the aims involved in the creation of the Weaver Way, i.e. to create a major recreational resource in the region and to provide a focal point for economic, social and environmental regeneration. So far the initiative had been resulted in improvements to cuts, locks and tow paths in several areas, including Nantwich Marina.

The Weaver Way was launched in Audlem last June with "Saturn", a horsedrawn fly boat, moored here. The project has won a share of the £50m "Connect 2" award – this involved plans to revitalise walking and cycling in communities across the UK, creating new routes for local journeys. Crossings and new bridges would be created over busy roads, railway lines and rivers, linking into new networks of local paths free from traffic, thus improving the quality of the living environment.
