A Stafford Street resident has warned that she was approached (on her property) by a man who spoke very broken English, with another man hovering in the background, asking her to help them by speaking to somebody on a mobile phone.

Being understandably a bit concerned she backed off and when followed resorted to a good scream – this effectively put the men off and they quickly disappeared.

This might have an innocent explanation, but it seems sensible to warn local residents that this sort of behaviour is often associated with "distraction" robberies, and so people should be on their guard.

We have received a further report that the two foreign gents managed to get assistance from a male resident and it appears that they were probably genuinely trying to get help in making a phone call.
