Hey, have a look at the top photo.... do you know the lady?

Rowetta, the X Factor finalist is rumoured to be coming along to Audlem next Thursday with the Rainband on backing vocals. She does go to most gigs with them so it is highly likely.

And if you don't like X factor, remember, she was in The Happy Mondays.

The Rainband were founded in 2009 by lead singer Martin Finnigan and guitarist Phil Rainey – who made his name with Peter Hook’s cult combo Monaco – they were completed last year when bassist Paul Daggatt and drummer Steve Irlam joined the ranks.

#Band of the Year
Nominated 2010 Band of the Year by The Natter magazine, the Manchester four-piece are already gearing up for the release date of their debut EP and can boast a sell-out UK promo tour.

After supporting Badly Drawn Boy and The Fall, the lads were signed to Manchester’s independent label, Affinity Records.

The band’s influences run deep, taking listeners on a journey inspired by acts such as Joy Division through to The Doves. They are currently writing and recording their first album and have a rack of major dates for 2011.

The Rainband also wrote the soundtrack to a book called Broken Youth, a gritty novel about life growing up in Manchester written by local author Karen Woods which is now being made into an ITV drama.

Martin said: “Simple Minds’ manager heard me and Phil play Broken Youth acoustically on a radio show and asked to hear the full band version. They played it to Jim Kerr and he loved it!

“Next thing I knew Jim himself rang me up to ask us if we would support them on their upcoming tour – I thought it was one of my mates messing around – but it was actually him – we are big fans so it was pretty amazing.

“I think we are the sound of the new dawn for independent guitar music and 2011 is the year guitar based songs wrestle music back from the soulless and the fakes.”

#Plaudits
The Rainband have gained an impressive collection of plaudits from musical heavyweights including Elbow and Peter Hook, and have secured summer dates supporting Simple Minds and The Charlatans.

The Prodigal EP, which features tracks Alone, Alive and The Prodigal, was released earlier this year and is available to buy on iTunes and from all good record stores.

September 2011 sees the lads touring Europe with Simple Minds and then The Lord Combermere, Audlem is proud to announce that the band will be playing at their Thursday Night Live event on the 29th September, on stage at 9.00pm – free entry.

Please come to the Lord Combermere next Thursday and fill the pub to make them want to come back.
