A very special Chillinight

Chillinight, each time we put one on, they are special in someway, and often it's a mix of the acts that play, the audience and a sprinkling of special magic dust. Hopefully, I've not lost it, but I can never really put my finger on it. It's the people that are there that make it, and often they can take away something special.

From the Duffey's perspective, and all that help, it's a pleasure to put it on. From the acts that come along to play, you just would not get that ambience and quality that you get in that little hall.

Rumours grew again of a Duffey Boys split as Pete Marshall opened the evening solo, delivering three covers in his imitable style. Hoc made his way to the stage (I'm trying to give an impartial review here!) nonchalantly joining in halfway through 'Gravity'. The Duffeys completing three more covers before Pete Marshall left the stage for Hoc to cover an Ozarks number. A set of covers from the Duffey Boys? Questions will be asked.

The Folkwits, Dave Nettleton & Kelly Brammer, and fast becoming one of the best folk duos around, just go from strength to strength with each performance. If you see them playing anywhere, get along, you will not be disappointed.

New to Audlem, Soulmatesneverdie superb delivery of quirky lyrics with a nylon strung guitar, captivated, and I can use that word a lot in this review, but yes, captivated the audience.

Then it was Foxy Wellingtons, following in what now appears to be a tradition of Audlem-based bands – developing their own songs, an intricate style of music, with a confidence that offers great promise (not my words, as I may appear biased!).

We then went to what can only be one of the most refreshing duos performing at the Chillinight for a second time, Hello Big World. I've only ever witnessed the likes of Darren Poyzer achieve a captivating (!) silence the likes of what we saw last night, while performing. Delivering their own material, with a rare style and humour that only a live performance can capture, I saw the audience rise to the feet applauding a great set.

Tomorrows Yesterday, fronted by the charismatic and talented Tom Seals, pulled the evening to a rousing close, so many in the band that the keyboards sat out front! A great set from a talented band.

Oh, yes, that extra special bit I mentioned earlier – for those that know it was special, for those that had no idea of the significance at all of this band, they just enjoyed it:
"Absolutely, a real treat to see Blue Cafe!"
"It was a fantastic night again, thank you, really good to see Blue Cafe back in action :o)
"That made my day"
"Sorry can't speak yet, too emotional."
"Have we seen the revival of Blue Cafe?"

On last night's performance let's hope so – in what ever guise. It was good.
