Did you get involved in the consultation about whether the community should put in a bid for the field at the top of Green Lane? Are you interested in how your community works and what it will look like in the future? If so, we want to hear from you!
Audlem Parish Council is looking to co-opt two new Councillors and invites applications from residents who want to help shape the future of our community.
Apart from the fact that applicants must meet certain criteria (see below**) Councillors can come from all stages and walks of life. You don't have to be retired or have lots of time on your hands (although there is a lot to do). You don't have to be connected to a political party – in fact, Audlem Parish Council prides itself on being apolitical.
Being a Councillor is interesting, challenging, often frustrating but also immensely rewarding.
Councillors work to ensure the views of the community are heard on issues such as planning, highways, law and order, and the environment. They manage the budget to ensure that the correct level of precept is applied for to help support local groups, the public conveniences (and soon, the playing field complex) are properly maintained, and the Parish assets are in good condition. Our Neighbourhood Plan – one of the first in Cheshire East – was drawn up after extensive community consultation and helps protect against speculative, unplanned development.
If you have yet to attend a Council meeting you are welcome to come and find out more about what happens at 7.00pm on Monday 14th May in the Methodist Rooms, Shropshire Street. If you would like an informal chat about the role, please contact any Councillor (click here) or our Clerk, Bee Lopez Bloor.
If you wish to be considered for co-option, please send a letter of application, explaining why you are motivated to apply, also giving a little about your life and interests to audlempc@gmail.com.
** Note – Applications are open to anyone aged 18 years and over; eligible to vote and have lived or worked in the parish for 12 months or more, or within 3 miles of the parish boundary.
