As of Friday 26th Turnpike Field can now be accessed though a new pedestrian gate installed close to the canal bridge on Shropshire street.
This entrance now complements the historical access points at each end of the public footpath crossing the southern end of the area:
At present NONE of the three access points are wheelchair friendly – planning permission is being sought to hopefully improve this.
The area is essentially un-cultivated pasture and has two streams crossing it, so we strongly urge all visitors to take care and wear appropriate footwear.
Visitors should also be aware that in rainy conditions the south western end, towards Green Lane, becomes quite boggy, so additional caution needs to be taken there and near the stream beds.
Please show consideration to other users and remove all refuse and dog waste – there are doggy bins on Shropshire Street at the canal toll path entrance as well as on the canal at lock 11.
