Today, 31st July, sees one of the big events of the Audlem calendar – the Audlem Transport Festival organised by ASET, the Audlem Special Events Team.

Some 350 vehicles and boats are booked in for what should be a great day. The cars, commercial vehicles, tractors and motor cycles will parade through the village and will then assemble on the playing field for the afternoon.

Nearby, at Audlem Wharf, twenty four historic boats will be moored outside the Mill Shop and the Shroppie Fly and in the pound below the Shroppie.

The cars, commercial vehicles, tractors and motor bikes will set off from Hankeklow Green at 12noon and will parade soon after through Audlem via Stafford Street, the Square and Cheshire Street.

There will be a running commentary in the Square before the vehicles move to the Playing Field where lots of entertainment is guaranteed throughout the afternoon. It's all free and a fabulous sight with the field packed with marvelous vehicles of all ages.

Historic boats have been gathering down at the Wharf over recent days in what is now one of the largest shows of narrow boats anywhere in the country.

Our photos show a packed playing field from last year's Festival and some shots of the boats gathering this year.

Last night, the boat crews enjoyed a BBQ laid on by Peter and Christine Silvester at Audlem Mill who have worked hard to attract so many fascinating vessels to Audlem.
