Traffic and road complaints

Peter Morgan writes: "Checking up on the Forum correspondence, I note the disparaging views about the perceived lack of action by the Parish Council re. the above. However, I would like to point out on behalf of the Council, that this is a regular discussion topic in our meetings, as can be seen from the Council minutes – see item 8.152 under 'Highways' at our February 2nd meeting – and would it not be progressive to put our meeting minutes online, once approved?

"We are as disgusted with the poor condition of our roads and pavements as your correspondents are and equally frustrated that our regular complaints bring little in the way of improvement, apart that is from the occasional 'truck and dump' guys – they who risk life and limb shoveling some tarmac into a wet, muddy hole, bouncing on it a few times and then off to the next chasm without a cone or hazard warning sign in sight. Having witnessed this on the Woore Road Narrows, where the traffic really is doing 40mph or more on its descent into the village, these Highway Maintenance Operatives (roadmen) are an endangered breed and perhaps it explains why there are so few of them.

"But back to the matter in hand, we have been succesful in arranging for the Area Maintenance Engineer to attend our next Parish Council meeting on Monday, 2nd March. All who have an interest can attend and profer their considered opinions in the Open Public Forum that precedes the meeting proper.

"Finally, a perusal of the Cheshire County Council website will reveal under, 'Highways,' a Road Reporting screen (and also footpaths) where anyone can email any specific road concerns, dangerous potholes and the like, direct. This system may or may not yield immediate results, especially during the twin calving event of East and West Cheshire, when we get two bureaucrats for the price of....two. However, if you print off a hard copy of your complaint and their response and file it, repeat the process on a regular basis and after six months, if no tarmac has resulted, send it all to your MP with a covering letter of complaint. It's sure to result in a severe case of boxtickers elbow, or worse."
