Regular readers will have read on Tuesday about the bid to the Northern Marches Leader fund to pay to hardcore the towpath northwards towards Bridge 80 next to the Overwater marina.

The good news is that the bid has successfully crossed the first hurdle. Now, the Parish Plan team has been invited to submit a more detailed bid. This work has to be completed this month for consideration in December.

In the initial bid, a quote for this work from one contractor who works regularly for British Waterways was used. Competitive bids from at least two other companies will now be sought. If you would like details, please contact editor@audlem.org">editor@audlem.org

A number of local companies will be approached so that the detailed funding bid can be completed. It's a complex document but much of the work was completed in the first stage of bidding, called the Expression of Interest.

The public consultation requirements have also been considered as there was a specific question about this project in the 2010 Audlem Parish Plan questionnaire distributed to residents. 90% of respondents were in favour of this project.

More on this development as news comes in.
