If you have a tourism business, entries for this year's awards run by 'Visit Chester & Cheshire' have to be in by Thursday 13th April. Last year local business Combermere Abbey Cottages won the 'Best Cheshire Self-Catering Holiday' award and has gone through to national 'Enjoy England' awards to be held on 20th April at Madame Tussauds, London. Regional and national recognition like this can be a big boost to business.

The importance of tourism to Audlem's economy is immense with around 50,000 narrowboat visitors a year and thousands more arriving by car, bicycle and on foot and boosting the village's pubs and shops. Cyclists visit the Old Priest House in droves while the Shroppie Fly is known all over the country amongst canal enthusiasts.

There's a range of categories in the awards competition including B&B of the Year; Small Visitor Attraction; Best Supporter of Regional Food & Drink; Best Event Of The Year (and Audlem could have a number of contenders for that) and Best Retail Business – Audlem has what is thought to be a first with a new Tourist Information Centre for a village of this size. If anyone wants to put in an entry, call/fax on 01244 343127 or email: lucy.johnson@wtb.co.uk">lucy.johnson@wtb.co.uk to get the appropriate entry form. But the closing date is strictly Thursday 13th April.
