Last Saturday morning, several volunteers with the Canal & River Trust converged on the area around the canal wharf.

By early afternoon, they had trimmed hedges, cut back overgrown vegetation and shrubs, tidied the towpath and the road edges, and planted over 600 spring flowering bulbs.

The tools and bulbs were funded by the Task Force Leader, Dek Owen, himself a volunteer, with other support and refreshments provided by Peter and Chris at Audlem Mill.

Dek Owen came from Telford, and other volunteers from the Crewe and Oswestry areas, but only one from Audlem.

Unfortunately, an earlier appeal on AudlemOnline for local people to join in did not result in anybody coming on Saturday to help tidy their local canal, but more task force days will be held regularly through the winter in Audlem, concentrating on other sections of the lock flight. Please contact Audlem Mill on 01270 811059 to register your interest.
