Fifteen years ago, Maurice, our son Tom, and I moved to Audlem. From the very beginning, we loved being part of this great village community.
Although Tom moved to Manchester for university and later settled there, Audlem will always feel like home to him. Maurice and I embraced village life and enjoyed so many of the groups, activities, and friendships that make this place so special.
Sadly, Maurice recently passed away suddenly, leaving Tom and me shocked and devastated.
I wanted to express just how grateful we are to live in such an extraordinary community. The kindness, support, and compassion we have received have been overwhelming in the very best way.
Neighbours, friends, local businesses, the GP surgery, and members of the many groups we have been involved with have all helped us through this incredibly difficult time. From beautiful flowers and meals to comforting words, shoulders to cry on and opportunities to share stories and memories of Maurice, every gesture has meant so much.
Maurice's funeral and celebration of life took place on Friday 12th June. It felt not only like a family occasion, but one embraced and supported by the whole village.
Our heartfelt thanks go to St James' Church, the bell ringers, Audlem Voices and even a soloist singer, No.11 Caf for the lovely buffet, the Public Hall, the walking football team for setting out tables and chairs, Jody Jennings for the brilliant entertainment, and to everyone who shared such happy memories and stories of Maurice.
We will never forget the kindness that has been shown to us.
With heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you,
Jeanette and Tom Shenton
