A teenager killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident near Adderley died of head injuries.

A post mortem examination on Arnold Higgins, 19, of Market Drayton has given the cause of death as "head injury consistent with being struck by a vehicle".

The teenager's body was discovered on the verge of the A529 between Adderley and Market Drayton last Friday morning.

Police believe he was struck by a vehicle as he walked home from work the previous evening at about 4.45pm.

Officers are still trying to trace the owners of any vehicles in the area at the time and they particularly want to speak to anyone who was travelling towards Adderley who may have been forced to brake because of an oncoming vehicle.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "We have had an excellent response from members of the public relating to our recent appeals."

Police have already been contacted by a number of people who had seen a man, believed to be Mr Higgins, walking on the road between 5pm and 6pm last Thursday.

The A529 was closed for more than six hours after the discovery on Friday as accident investigation teams carried out a thorough search of the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference 81S 081113.
