Our Key Stage 2 children really got Christmas started Thursday night with some wonderful singing on St James' Church step at the Big Switch On event.

It was wonderful to see so many happy faces and share all their hard work learning words for the songs. Thanks to the Key Stage 2 staff for helping the children prepare for this special event.

FASA did a wonderful job manning stalls in both our school hall and at the Buttermarket as well as guiding us all down together to meet Father Christmas at the Canal Wharf. A wonderful evening for all involved.

We were treated to more musical talents as the Key Stage 2 singers were filmed for the Mend Our Mum DVD as they sang Amazing Grace on Wednesday afternoon.

This is a wonderful project for a tremendously special cause and it was very special to hear the children sing so beautifully as part of this. Our EYFS and Key Stage 1 children will also be singing this song as part of their special Christmas performance providing us with another chance to raise funds for this charity.

This week had been 'Our World Week' in school with all classes looking at Global themes and issues as well and using their map and geography skills to help them 'navigate' the globe.

The week began with a special launch assembly led by Mrs Hayward and Miss Danha with children being invited to apply to become Global Ambassadors for school. I am looking forward to sharing more news about this special role in school once the Ambassadors have been appointed.

Children have visited each other's classrooms to experience Global 'Roundabout' activities with different teachers and have produced some wonderful work, which was shared in a special 'Showcase Assembly' yesterday afternoon. Thank you to Mrs Hayward and Miss Danha for leading this special week.

Sport

Well done to Ellis Haycock and Connor Leonard who have both achieved their 10k certificate for Active Audlem. Congratulations also go to Harrison Saunders who managed to complete his 20k recently.

Our school football teams were in action last night against Acton. One team lost 3-1 after a hard fought match in the Nantwich Autumn league semi-final and our other team lost 7-1. Despite the disappointing scorelines, they represented school well and we are proud of them all.

Thank you for your understanding about the rescheduling of the Key Stage 2 athletics Sporthall Athletics Competition. The team will now be representing our school at this competition on Monday evening at Malbank. Mr Griffiths and Mrs Heathcock have been working hard with them all with the help of Mr Wiliding and I am sure they will do a great job!

Congratulations to Esther Wilding who raced in a competition at SportCity in Manchester last weekend. She achieved first place overall managing to break the Under 11s sprint record over 60m by 0.06seconds – a wonderful achievement!

FASA News

It is our Christmas Fair next Friday. If you are able to donate cakes for the cake stall for this event, please send them into school on Friday 5th December.

All children have been given Christmas Cracker homework sheets for them to create special crackers for the fair.

All raffle ticket stubs for our Christmas Fair and any unsold tickets also need to be returned to school by Friday at the latest so they can be included in the draw at the Fair.

FASA would also welcome any donations of quality books that you are clearing out pre-Christmas, as they are planning to have a bookstall at the Fair. Many thanks for your help and support with this.

ABC Childcare

ABC values the importance of early writing skills in children, and is providing a free event for parents and young children to come along to their setting, and get involved in fun and relevant activities.

With a winter wonderland theme in mind, the activities will be led by their Qualified Early Years Teacher and include 'Write Dance', icing biscuits, arts and crafts, messy play and writing letters to Santa. We hope you and your little ones attend this special event on Friday 5th December from 9.30am – 11.00 a.m. Please call 01270 669050 for more information.

Christingle Service

The Christingle Service will take place at St James' Church this Sunday at 4.00pm. I hope many of our families are able to attend this special service.
