Supermarket shoppers could soon be able to shop round the clock in Market Drayton if Asda gets its way.

The store wants planning consent for 24-hour opening from Monday to Saturday, with 10am to 4pm opening on Sunday.

A statement to Shropshire Council insists there will no night-time deliveries to disturb neighbours at the Stafford Street store and that 24-hour opening is required to meet customer demand.

The statement adds: "Asda have identified a need to vary the opening hours in the case of this particular store. In doing so Asda are mindful of the need to ensure that local amenity is appropriately protected."

The store's original consent, granted in 1999, contained conditions that the store remained closed between 10pm and 6am. It is this condition that Asda wants lifted.
