Audlem's cricketers had a good weekend resulting in a win and a near-victory as both teams put in good performances.

In Division 3 the 1st XI, playing at home to Port Sunlight, lost the toss and were put in to bat on a difficult wicket. Runs were hard to come by and the bowlers always held the upper hand. Eight of Audlem's batsmen managed to get their scores into the teens, but were then out. Port Sunlight's Roy Turner made the most of the conditions and took 7 for 25 off 23 overs as Audlem were all out in the last of their 48 overs for a creditable 136.

Port Sunlight's reply got off to a slow start as Audlem's opening bowlers Stuart Elkes and Rich Brown tied the batsmen down. Port Sunlight managed to increase the run rate, but once their top scorer, youngster Harry Burkey, was out for 42 with the score at 65 for 4, Audlem's bowlers mopped up the tail as they bowled the visitors out for 93 to win by 43 runs. Brown (5 for 30) and Elkes (2 for 37) were well supported by young Ollie Burney, who finished with a creditable 3 for 20. Audlem took 25 points from the game to move up to second in the table, whilst Port Sunlight took 6.

Following last week's drubbing, a more youthful looking 2nd XI put in a much improved performance away to Capenhurst 2nds, as they had the home side hanging on for a draw in their Division 5 game. Audlem got off to a flier after being asked to bat first as Toby Banfield (55) and Tom Thorley (44) put on 81 for the first wicket at more than a run per ball. With old hand Dave Parry crafting a fine 89 not out, Audlem declared after 44 overs on 220 for 5.

In reply, Capenhurst never managed to get any momentum going and laboured throughout their innings against some good bowling from Audlem's varied attack. Parry capped a fine all-round performance with 3 for 13. He was supported by James Hindle (2 for 2 off 7 overs) and Andy Jinks (2 for 23). Capenhurst clung on for a draw as they struggled to 65 for 8. Capenhurst gained 3 points and Audlem 14.

Next Saturday the 1sts travel to Capenhurst to play their 1st team, whilst the 2nds are at home to Styal. Both matches start at 2pm.
