A front page news story appeared in the Nantwich Chronicle this morning containing information of considerable concern to parents and carers of children attending Audlem St James Primary School.

Peter Ellis, Chairman of St James School Governors has given Audlem Online the following statement:-

Audlem St James SchoolOver 90 parents attended an open meeting at the school on Friday evening where Governors briefed them on the issues surrounding complaints received from several parents concerning the quality of some pupil assessments and teaching.

At the meeting Governors explained that they had commissioned a review of teaching and learning and its management by an independent Consultant who is also an Ofsted inspector and a School Improvement Partner. The key findings of that inspection, which were shared with parents, were: -

The quality of teachingSatisfactory
Pupils' attainmentAverage
The quality of pupils' learning and their progressSatisfactory
The quality of learning for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities and their progressSatisfactory
The use of assessment to support learningSatisfactory
The leadership and management of teaching and learningSatisfactory
In addition to the above, Governors also received a related, but separate complaint, concerning the assessment of a child and the communication of the assessment information to the parents concerned. Governors are still considering this report and until this is concluded, Mrs Nolan-Burnitt will not be in school. Mr Wilken will be acting Headteacher over the next few weeks, assisted by a Consultant Headteacher, Miss Tracey Walklate, who is the Headteacher at The Quinta Primary School in Congleton. Miss Walklate will be spending approx 2 days per week with us.

Governors are appreciative of the support that is being offered to us by the Local Authority in facilitating these arrangements. We are also assured of continued support from the Diocese.

The report included an action plan that is now being implemented and Governors have given an undertaking to provide regular progress reports to parents.

Peter Ellis Chairman of Governors
