Yesterday's inaugural Short-ARS expedition to the Sandstone Trail proved popular, with a new record for an ARS walk of thirty two hikers.

Short-ARS is a new idea from the Audlem Ramblers Society which, it's hoped, will appeal to current ARS members and others looking for a shorter walk than the normal ARS expeditions. With application forms and money flowing in afterwards, yesterday's walk worked!

Short-ARS walks are 5 to 7 miles in length with only easy climbs. They will normally be on the last Saturday of the month. The walks will be no more than 45 minutes or so (and usually less) driving from Audlem.

Sandstone TrailYesterday's walk was a near five-mile 'figure of eight' hike around the Sandstone Trail area, just over 30 minutes drive from Audlem. It has its ups and downs and, on a clear day, offers fabulous views across much of Cheshire.

The reaction of new walkers at an ARS event was positive. If you are interested, look out on Audlem Online for announcements on Audlem Online. Full-scale ARS expeditions are on the second Saurday of each month and Short-ARS will normally be the fourth Saturday.

You will be very welcome for a 'trial' walk but hopefully, walkers will then join ARS. Membership is £5 a year.

Not all thirty two are featured on the photo – some joined up at the start of the walk rather than at Audlem car park.
