The Short-ARS walk for Saturday (September 24th) will be a circuit of the Mere at Ellesmere, Welshampton and the Llangollen Canal.

We meet on the main car park in the village at 9.30a.m. and drive to Ellesmere (30 minutes) to park on the first car park on the right as you get into Ellesmere.

The route takes us initailly to the visitor centre (where there are toilets etc) and then half-way round the Mere where we turn off across fields and farmtracks towards Welshampton. At Welshampton we walk 200 yards along the A495 (with pavement) into the village, and then turn right down past the Church into Lyneal Lane.

This quiet lane takes us down to the Llangollen Canal in just over half-a-mile. From there it is less than three miles back to Ellesmere along the towpath, past various woods and meres.

The last little bit includes a walk through the Ellesmere Tunnel (although there is an easy alternative for those who would prefer to stay in the open air!) before we arrive back at the car park.

Although the walk is at the top end of the Short-ARS range, being some seven miles long, almost all of it is quite level going (one short climb across a field) with no more than one or two stiles and mainly on lanes, woodland paths or towpath.
