Members of ARS, the Audlem Ramblers Society, had the perfect opportunity on Saturday to look down on the rich and famous as they hiked along the spectacular Alderley Edge on a Short-ARS expedition.

They stopped for a lunch break at the aptly named Stormy Point which enjoyed views down on to some distant and very impressive properties in the nearby town of Alderley Edge. Whilst famous for its Premiership footballers it is also said at one time to house more PhD qualified residents per capita than anywhere else in Britain, thanks to the many pharmaceutical companies in the area.

It was also speculated that Lyme Park could be seen from this spot but on a chilly but bright day, no sign of a Mr Darcy of Pride and Prejudice fame emerging from the lake in a wet shirt could be seen.

Short-ARS walks are normally on the last Saturday of each month and are walks of around five miles, reasonably flat and normally within 30-minutes drive of Audlem. The Alderley Edge walk was a somewhat longer drive and did include 500ft of ascent but was deemed a great success by all participants and well worth the drive.

The walk was led by Jean Stainthorpe and Jeanette Shenton.
