It's the February Short-ARS walk this coming Saturday ,27th February led by Kate Down – meet on Audlem car park at 9.15am.

The walk is from Wem to Yorton; here is Kate's description:

Next Saturday's Short ARS walk is in Shropshire. We will park at Yorton train station, catch the train to Wem, and then walk back. The walk takes us along the River Roden, through the village of Tilley, then along the Shropshire way to Corbett woods and via woodland paths to the village of Clive and then back to Yorton. Along the way there are lovely views across the Shropshire countryside.

In total, about 5 1/2 miles, mostly flat with one short gentle climb and one short but steep downhill. Underfoot are mostly good tracks or field paths. However, some of these are quite muddy at the moment, but no stiles!

As we have to catch a train, I suggest we meet at Audlem car park at 9.15 am, which should give us plenty of time to get to Yorton station, park, change into boots in time for the 10.28 train to Wem.

As parking is fairly limited, we need to minimise the number of cars we take. Also, as the walk is likely to take about 2 1/2 hours, I suggest taking lunch and we can stop somewhere appropriate en route.

I estimate the difficulty at about 2 1/2 boots ( to cope with mud)! I will provide directions to Yorton station on Saturday, which will take about a 35- 40 minutes drive. The train costs £3 or £2 with a railcard.
