The Short ARS walk for July was originally scheduled to be in the Churnet Valley and included a journey by steam train, however on investigation the cost of the train journey is I believe too prohibitive. (You have to buy an all day ticket at £11 per person for just a short ride)
I then decided to organise a walk around Betley and Wrinehill but on the recce last weekend I found the paths quite overgrown in places, there were loads of stiles, the views were not as I remembered from years ago and to cap it all I encountered two bulls, both inquisitive, but one also fairly assertive!
For this reason I have decided to repeat a walk I did about 2 years ago around the area known as Northwich Woodlands.
This is an gentle walk of max 5 miles around Budworth Mere and follows the Trent and Mersey canal, and River Weaver taking in the Anderton Boatlift. (Last time we walked it they kindly operated the lift just as we were approaching it). Relatively flat with, as I recall, few stiles. I'm pretty certain I can remember the route, but it's impossible to get totally lost, and it's highly unlikely that we will encounter any bulls! We start walking at the car park at Marbury (pay and display) but there are toilets there.
Meet 9.30 am at Audlem car park.
