Christine Johnson is leading on Saturday 31st August a figure-of-eight walk on the Sandstone Ridge, from Coppermine Lane round Raw head, back via Coppermine Lane where the cars are parked, then a loop around Bulkeley Hill.
It is an undulating walk, uneven underfoot, with a couple of short but steep ascents/descents so walking poles may be useful. We should have superb views over the Cheshire plain, Liverpool and the Mersey Estuary if the weather is clear. Few stiles and dog friendly.
The first loop is about three and a half miles, the second one and a half, so there is the option of doing only part of the walk.
Depart Audlem Car Park 8.30 am. Please note – the Village Fete is being held that day but we are advised we are OK to meet in the car park.
The start point is Coppermine Lane, post code SY14 8BY. From the A534 heading west, take a right turn just after the Bickerton Poacher. Head up the lane onto the ridge where parking is on the left hand side.
NB All walkers must have suitable footwear and be prepared for adverse weather, carry food and water to last for the entire walk and be suitably fit for the various lengths of walk.
Each walk is led by a nominated leader who will carry some first-aid equipment. The leader has the right to refuse to include in a group anyone who is felt not be adequately equipped.
Non-members of Audlem Rambling Society (ARS) are welcome to come on a walk but are expected to join ARS and pay the membership fee after a trial walk or two.
