Whilst out walking yesterday in parkland near Wrexham my companion and I noticed what we thought was a an old feeder or upturned wheelbarrow in the middle of the field.

As we continued on our way, with a little elevation we realised that in fact it was an animal on its back. It appeared from 200m plus to be dead. However as we watched a magpie approached and the sheep turned its head and waved a foot.

What to do?

I then footed it to the stricken animal to find a very large and pregnant ewe on her back and stuck!

Taking off my coat and rucksack I decided to tackle it, I cautiously approached, grabbed the fleece and tested the weight. She kicked and nearly broke my watch.

Second attempt was more successful and more resolute so she was duly righted, she skipped off to join the rest of the flock. She glanced back, so my fellow walker said later, almost as if to thank me!

On our return, I Googled the predicament but found no conclusive results. I am sure that some fellow Audlem shepherds out there will know the answer!
