One of the regular groups of school children visiting Monks Hall Farm and the Overwater Marina was the first to use the Audlem Lass on mini-cruises around the marina yesterday.

The farm is part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme and has as many as 600 children a year visiting. Thirty children enjoyed their visit yesterday with not only a dairy farm but the marina to see and to learn much about country life.

The pupils from the Potteries, plus their teachers, had three trips on Audlem Lass around the Overwater Marina island. They were all delighted to see the swan on her nest and the Canada Geese escorting their young across the marina.

The photo shows Janet Maughan of the marina briefing one of the parties, smartly kitted out in their lifejackets, as they set off on their cruise. It's expected that Audlem Lass and the volunteer coxswains will have a busy summer with visits like this.

We are grateful to the teachers for permission to use the photos.
