The children of St James's School in Audlem have had their thinking caps on to create an ingenious new children's' story for publication.

It is a terrible tale of treachery featuring James the red-headed, pink pyjama wearing football fan, who is the victim of a midnight burglary when the roof of his house is stolen.

Chief suspect is his long-time enemy and next-door neighbour, Bob 'big bottom' who smells like a dustbin. The title of the book is yet to be determined by the children of years 1, 5 and 6.

Every class in school has contributed ideas, words and illustrations through creative workshops with a team of volunteers from St James's church in Audlem. The project was inspired by the theft of lead from the Church's own roof in 2011.

A major fundraising effort is now underway to pay for a new roof using a lead free alternative, and the proceeds from the sale of the book will make a significant contribution.

Head teacher Rebecca Jewitt says: "This is a unique project, giving our pupils the chance to work together to create an original and exciting piece of fiction. It also shows them that they are important citizens in our village community, and that their help is appreciated when the village needs to pull together.''

The book is being printed by Johnsons of Nantwich. Autographed copies of the book
will be on sale at the Audlem Music and Arts Festival (23rd to 27th May 2013), price to be confirmed, and available after that date from shops in Audlem including St James's church and The Canal Shop amongst others.

Reverend Helen Chantry says: "It's a special project that brings together our whole church family across all age groups. I can't wait to read the finished book. I've had a sneak preview
and I'm sure everyone will enjoy the story line. The wonderful illustrations will bring a
smile to their faces."
