It was my birthday last week and my friend from London has sent me (via a florist website company) a rose plant. According to the florist website it was due for delivery on the 1st or 2nd November (the day before my birthday) by Royal Mail – but it has yet to arrive.
Hmmm, I wonder where it might be? Can't wait now for a bit of soil and a few twigs to arrive, any day soon, as I don't suppose the postal workers at Warrington are armed with watering cans down in the sorting office!
Next year she says she is going to send me an unwrapped kipper in a box and that will serve them all right. Post early for Christmas everyone!
I should add that I received a replacement bouquet this morning sent by courier – in lieu of the rose bush. Very nice it is too. Thank you Debbie in Wraysbury.
Audlem Online will happily publish further Royal Mail tales of woe following our news story on Wednesday about very late deliveries since the Crewe sorting office was closed and mail handling shifted to Warrington.
In the interests of balance, we must say that two letters posted to Audlem from London and one locally from the village as a test have arrived promptly. So getting a letter here on time is not an impossibility. It's just that you can no longer rely on Royal Mail doing it all of the time."
