Royal Mail delivered a target beating 93.4% of first-class mail deliveries on time in Audlem's CW postcode area, according to latest figures.

It also exceeded national targets for first-class and second-class mail delivery from April to June this year, according to independent research.

The latest figures for the CW postcode area, which includes Audlem, are a significant improvement on three years ago when South Cheshire received the second worst service in mainland Britain with only 88.9% of first-class post delivered on time.

But the latest delivery times for South Cheshire are still below the national average of 94.9% for punctual deliveries across the UK as a whole.

Those who live in Canterbury can expect to receive 96.9% of their first-class mail on time while those in Lerwick, Scotland get only 61.6% of first-class letters delivered the following day.

The full results are published in the latest Royal Mail Quality of Service report, covering the first quarter of the financial year which can be viewed here.

Royal Mail cites a modernisation programme across all its network operations for the improved performance.

Mark Higson, Managing Director of Operations and Modernisation, said: "It is excellent news that we have exceeded our targets for First Class and Second Class letters and parcels."

Royal Mail says new technology and better equipment is being deployed nationwide and the working practices of postmen and women are changing to optimise the network.
