First a big thank you from me and Christine all the teams that support

  • Wheelyboat
  • Audlem Lass
  • The scout and guide Hall
  • RNLI Crewe nantwich and South Cheshire
  • The Overwater Marina

in fact all the things that Christine and I have an involvement with – your help is invaluable .

Then into 2017

The RNLI Cycle Sportif

On May 14th the RNLI Cycle Sportif (see below) will come through the village. That means up to 500 bikers will pass Audlem Cyclesport cycle shop who are offering to be open for minor repairs, adjustments and punctures – this news has been much approved of.

There will be a pit and banana stop in Coole Lane

The RNLI Festival

In 2017 this will be on September 9th and 10th. There will be a bigger Donkey Derby on the Sunday – more donkeys more fun

Background to the Cycle Sportif

Cycle Sportif is the title of the event last year that attracted 330 entrants. Because it was declared such an enjoyable event it is preparing for a total of 500 entrants this year.

It is a three counties event – for the record my team are saying that 370 are over 18, 100 under 18 and 30 age 11 to 18.

After discussion with the Balls at Audlem Cyclesport I asked the route team to include the centre of Audlem in this year's event. This was thought to be a good idea and it will happen. If the village facilities for the event are marketed well we could hopefully attract lots of supporters.

The original idea for the event came from Dave Hursthouse (committee member from Sandbach who saw a similar event at Abersoch), and two Crewe committee chaps, Phil Evereall and John Humphries.

These three formed the sub committee that ran last year's Sportif with bags of help at Sandbach and the Coole Lane pit stop manned by Audlemites (350 bananas) – the gross result for RNLI was £7250, a good result for a first off!
