An interesting document arrived at Audlem Online just before Christmas from the Weaver Valley Regional Park called Focus Area Proposals for Audlem – Final Report.

A large an impressive document, it details existing achievements and aspirations for the Audlem area; an analysis of the existing environment; opportunities and constraints for Audlem and it looks at developing a tourist theme for the village.

The report looks at the Shropshire Union canal and how to enhance and diversify rural assets. It includes a detailed SWOT analysis – looking at the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats to Audlem's future – the threats are largely 'increasing road traffic', an issue that is being tackled at present.

Over the next few days, Audlem Online will carry a series of reports with details from the report and how it may provide ideas for the future, as long as funding is available.

The most encouraging factor is that Audlem has been singled out for such a detailed analysis. Audlem became part of the Regional Park only after pressure from this website and local newspapers. We do know the managers of the Weaver Valley project have been impressed by events such as the opening of the Weaver Way in June at Audlem Wharf and the new interpretation panels along the canal that stretch as far as Nantwich, an idea that originated in Audlem.
