No – not the well-known local hostelry, but the real person.

Celia Bloor writes...

Audlem District History Society are looking forward to a talk by member and past Chairman Dinah Andrew entitled 'Lord Combermere in his time and ours' .

Readers may not know that there is Combermere school in Barbados, a Combermere barracks in Windsor and a monument in the grounds of Combermere Abbey as well as the equestrian statue in Chester. The Duke of Wellington visited Audlem to see his friends at the Vicarage and then visit Lord Combermere at the Abbey. The future Lord Combermere attended Audlem Grammar school.

All are welcome, £2 for visitors, 7.45pm for 8pm start at the Scout and Guide Hall, Cheshire Street, Audlem on Thursday February 18th.
