Our Reading Week in school has been a hive of activity with children and staff immersing themselves in books. Reading is like a magic carpet that transports you to new worlds, introduces you to wondrous characters whose fate you share and whose triumphs you celebrate.
In assembly last Monday, the children met Jack from 'Jack and the Flum Flum Tree' and used the objects Granny gave him to solve problems and help him to reach his destination, the isle of Blowyernose. Mrs Richardson also shared her favourite books and the children prepared to enter a book quiz as a Reading Week challenge.
During the week the teachers have been sharing their love of reading with the children in every class. Many relatives also joined us for our special Book Sharing session yesterday where they shared a variety of favourite stories and poems with children across the school.
This was a wonderful experience for all of the children and the buzz about reading was great to see; many thanks to all of the relatives who supported this special session.
Our themed week ended last Friday with the children following book trails around the school as the culmination of our exciting week of reading!
Our Book Fair has been tremendously supported in school: many thanks to all of the families who have visited the Fair. The Fair raised over £500 and school receives a percentage of the profits enabling us to buy more reading materials for our school library and classrooms.
Congratulations to the two new members of the Green Team recruited this week; I am sure that Leo Whittaker and Bertie Hardy will do a great join after hearing how impressed the current team and Mrs Hayward were with their applications!
Sporting News
Our football team played well away against Shavington Primary last Friday and were unfortunate to lose 2-0. On Friday evening they had a home game against Pear Tree Primary School and I am sure the team will display more super skills and do themselves and our school proud! Good luck everyone!
FASA
A reminder that all Christmas card orders need to be returned to school by Monday 19th October in time for the orders to be processed and returned to school in time for Christmas.
The Spooky Disco is nearly here! Remember to book your places, as these are limited. Please contact Lorna Saunders (07801238819) or Deborah Varley (07940914639) to book a place.
Thank you to all of the families who have donated to our Rag Bag Bin recently. Remember, any old clothes, shoes or covers that are donated are converted to money for school resources.

Advanced notice – FASA will be holding a Non uniform day on Friday 20th November to collect for 'Big Switch On' Tombola donations of bottles or chocolates for their stall in the village the following week. Please support this if you can.
ABC Childcare
The children at ABC have been enjoying an Autumn theme week this week and have been busy reading the Gruffalo and sharing lots of fun activities based on this story. They have also been making delicious biscuits dipped in chocolate!
A reminder that ABC are now taking bookings for their holiday club, which is Halloween themed. I am attaching a flier about ABC's new after school clubs on offer for next half term; please contact the team at ABC if you would like any further information about either of these services.
Parent View
Many of you will be aware of the online questionnaire called Parent View, which parents and carers can use to give their views about school at any time of the school year. To register and complete the short questionnaire at http://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk you simply need to register your email address and create a password.
Once your login has been activated, it takes a few minutes to choose answers to 12 short questions about the school, such as the quality of teaching and whether you would recommend the school to other parents.
Inspectors will consider parents' views alongside other evidence when making a judgement about a school. It is also useful for us because it gives valuable information about what you think of the school and helps us to improve.
Please remember, you can give your opinion of school through Parent View at any time during the school year. At the time of an inspection, you can refresh or resubmit your views and the facility will overwrite your previous response so that only one 'view' for each parent, per school, is held.
New School Menu
The new menu for school dinners has been put onto our school website and will be available to order from the 9th November. The updated version in the General Information section of the website, under the School Dinners heading – please check this before deciding which meal you would like your child to have each day.
Mrs Hayward, our school cook, is constantly reviewing her menus and takes great pride in the service she offers to our children. Please get in touch with school if you would like anymore details about school meals.
Polite reminders
I would like to remind all parents and carers that it is our policy to ask that all children are absent from school for 48 hours from their last episode of diarrhoea or vomiting. This is to prevent other children and staff becoming ill. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
Doors open from 8.45am for children to come into school each morning, if your child arrives later than 9.00am they will need to be brought into school through the main entrance to ensure they are registered. It is important that children are escorted to the office entrance as the car park can be very busy at the start of the school day.
In the interests of safety, please do not park your car in the school car park at the beginning or end of the school day. Thank you.
Finally
It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers attending our Parent Teacher Meetings on Wednesday and Thursday. Thank you for your support with these meetings; they are a vital part of our home school partnership. I would also like to thank all of the Teaching Assistants who volunteered to cover childcare for these evenings.
I know some of you took the opportunity to talk to the Governors who were present on both evenings, thank you for the feedback and thoughts you shared with them; working closely with Governors, parents, staff and children we continue to see our school go from strength to strength.
