Two members of the Capital Projects team of the Audlem Parish Plan have attended a meeting in Nantwich to discuss funding for projects in the area. Numerous bids have to be submitted for virtually any project – indeed filling in complex bid documents is now both a fine art and, it appears, a growing industry.

The Nantwich meeting was attended by representatives from a wide range of organisations, including Cheshire County Council. As the Audlem team were new to this meeting, they were introduced to the other attendees by the meeting's chairman with the immortal words: "For those of you who don't know Audlem, it is to the BBC at the boundary of their North West TV region – you may have seen the village on TV recently. To those of us in the Crewe & Nantwich Borough, we long ago came to realise Audlem is considered to be the centre of the Universe!"

Audlem Online will report on the funding bids on a regular basis. We were not successful in the bid a few months ago for £107,000 from Rural Enterprise. We can, however, re-submit bids and new funding possibilities are being announced all the time, most recently by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Each bid seems to involve a 36 page application form, and an even longer explanatory guideline booklet. There are even training courses on how to fill in the forms!
