The latest series of quiz nights at the Shroppie Fly finished on Tuesday. The series started way back in November and ran for a total of fifteen weeks. During this time, twenty-three different teams took part, including six that were made up of people just passing through on the canal.
As usual the last night was Charity Night, with twelve of the regular teams vying to win the final contest of the series. All of the questions were provided by the teams taking part. They included How many times in a year does a penguin have sex? The answer is shown at the bottom of the article. It is not, as someone was heard to say, "It depends on how many times they're p – p – picked up!"

Each year the quiz raises funds for a local charity. This year's recipient is the Audlem First Responder scheme. Over the fifteen weeks the quiz raised £466.35. On behalf of the First Responders, Tim Ball thanked quizmaster Tony Lynch, landlords Kate and Andy Griffiths and all of the teams that had helped to raise the money. He explained that since being set up in November they had attended 90 incidents.

There are currently just four trained volunteers: Tim; his wife Nikki; Jane Palin and Andy Roscoe-Icke, with another five in the process of being trained. There was also one person who signed up for training at the end of the quiz.

The answer is once.
