Local Audlem representatives have attended a meeting in Winsford where many of those communities and groups interested in the new Weaver Valley Regional Park discussed the way forward for the area. The meeting was very much focused on the waterways in the Regional Park.

The Weaver Valley Regional Park stretches from Audlem in the south to Frodsham in the north of Cheshire. The project is seen as an important way to encourage economic, environmental and social regeneration in the area. It has certainly put Audlem on the map and the village was discussed at the meeting in very much the same way as larger communities such as Nantwich, Sandbach, Middlewich and Northwich. Indeed, the new diorama maps of Audlem by the Shroppie Fly and on the car park were given as an example of good practice, encouraging visitors to explore the whole local area.

Mike Cooksley, the Chairman of the Weaver Valley Management Board says, in a new publication about the project: "For years we have ignored the defining feature of the area: water." One of the first projects to get underway is the Weaver Way, a long-distance footpath and cycleway from Audlem to the north of the county. The launch of the Weaver Way is coming up next month – more on this over the coming weeks.

The park's brochure describes Audlem as one of the 'strategic gateways' to the Weaver Valley Regional Park. In the brochure's section 'A Place for People', there is a photograph of Audlem residents Pete and Jane Marshall of the Daystar Theatre playing guitar and violin on a narrow boat.
