The current Forum topic "Traffic problems in Audlem" is attracting a lively response with over forty postings to date. You can check the comments out, and add your own views if you wish, by clicking on 'Forum' on the top horizontal bar.

While most of the comments have related to speeding and other issues on the main roads, there is also the current Vote Poll asking: "Are Audlem's rural roads fit for purpose?" This will be moving on to a new question shortly, but the current voting stands at 84% saying "No"; 14% saying "Yes" and another 2% who are unsure.

The Vote Poll results (as they stood then) were passed personally to the County Councillor who will be taking political responsibility for Highways in Cheshire East when he visited the village last month. He was also given a list of priority safety issues including the worn surface on the A529 at the bend at Corbrook; the collapsed surface between Corbrook and Audlem which has damaged some vehicles; poor surfaces at Buerton and Burleydam on the A525 which have resulted in vehicles leaving the road; the poor surface outside the Moseley's Yard development in Audlem centre with the danger of a collapsing sewer as well as pedestrians being soaked as a result of large puddles in wet weather; the state of Coole Lane, particularly in the light of the new Marina being granted planning permission which will increase traffic considerably.

At this month's Audlem Parish Council meeting, councillors were assured that the Burleydam bends would be attended to. We understand a public commitment was also given by the County Councillor at the recent Joint Highways Meeting on 26th January to make Coole Lane a priority issue for the new Cheshire East authority. This will be welcomed by many although, judging by the Forum and Vote Poll comments and votes, all the safety related issues on local roads need urgent attention, particularly as the key politician involved has been briefed in detail and shown many of the problems by village representatives.

At the Audlem Parish Council meeting on 2nd March, the Area Highways Maintenance Engineer will be attending and many of these issues can be discussed.
