The Royal Stoke University Hospital

I had occasion to be admitted to the above hospital on the 23rd September for a TAVI procedure whereby a new metal valve – in the form of a cylindrical cage – is inserted via arteries and fitted into the existing aortic valve.

My operation was scheduled for the 24th. It took about 3 hours in all.

I write to say how very, very impressed I was with the whole set up. From the senior Consultant, all staff were caring, thoughtful and so dedicated – without fuss. Willing to answer all my probing questions and, if not, to find someone who could give answer to me.

The wards were spotless and restful. Food was reasonable and served from hot dishes on the wards rather than being plated up in far distant kitchens.

In the intensive part of the whole event, the hourly checking of my welfare went on calmly and quietly and on moving to a softer ward of just four beds, the banter with the other patients was enjoyable.

Discharge was rapid as I left on the 27th.

A truly great example of the NHS in all its caring glory.

I recommend it to all who will have recourse to this fine hospital
