Race Report- Pounding The Streets For Adam

A rainy Sunday morning in Manchester, Old Trafford Football Club to be precise, and 14,000 runners line up at the start of the Manchester Half Marathon. Lots of good causes represented. Lots of puddles, and a dark grey sky, but equally, lots of enthusiasm from both the runners, and the crowds who had gathered all along the 13.1 mile route. Wearing the Man. United shirt in the memory Adam Lovatt, the mood was emotional, as we both reflected why we were there.

Hopefully he (Adam) would have found it mildly amusing to see a life long Liverpool FC fan doing such a penance! Race start delayed 10 minutes, but finally they were off- elite runners first, followed by each wave of pre-declared "ability" at 10 minute intervals. The rain fell steadily all morning, but Brian, despite the weather and nursing a bad back, achieved a very creditable time of 1 hour and 40 mins.Crossing the finishing line at Old Trafford Cricket Club, all runners were handed both a medal, and a (non alcoholic) beer- so all that was left was to raise a glass to Adam.

Later, after changing clothes, and consuming a few more celebratory beers, we bumped into Joanna Lumley at the stage door of the Lowry Theatre. Joanna was gracious enough to pose for a photograph with Brian and was quick to congratulate him on his fund raising mission.

As money for the campaign has continued to come in, following the race, we will report on the final sum raised in a future post.Anyone still wishing to donate can do so through the campaign's Go Fund Me page (GFM website minimum is £5), click here
