Potholes, patches and pipes

An Audlem resident has been chasing Cheshire East highways about a number of road surface issues in the village and nearby.

One of senior engineers who came down to look at the surface water and other problems Coop last week says the temporary repair – now known as Peter's Plug (see Audlem Online 24th February) – outside the funeral directors will be upgraded in the next month or so with a proper patch repair. It may then be re-named Peter's Patch!

This will happen once they have tackled many other urgent potholes in the area.

The engineer has promised to tackle another nasty one between Hankelow and Corbrook (in the dip Audlem-bound before climbing up to the Corbrook bend) where a hole opened up last week.

They are also scheduled to sort out the channel and gulley issue where the water runs across the road next to the Corbrook banking.

Puddles outside Co-opThe engineer was then asked about the problems outside the Coop. These, he says, are the work of Müller Homes former engineering contractor, who, we are told, has since gone bust.

They created a couple of raised gulleys – raised too much, it appears – which is causing the water to 'pool' outside Coop entrance.

It is also possible there are a number of issues regarding the drainage at the Müller site that were NOT as on the approved plans, including waste pipes not of the correct diameter.

Cheshire Highways have, we are told, read the stories on Audlem Online about potential Pothole fishing in the village. They think they are quite amusing, but realise we need things improving and a team of Cheshire East engineering contractors will be in the village to build an improved gulley outside the Coop late in the first week in March/early second week.

United UtilitiesThis, however, means that United Utilites will not then be able to dig the road up again for at least twelve months.

This raises the question of what happened to the UU major works across the A525 in that precise area near the Fire Station and the Co-op. Work was supposed to start last summer, was delayed for reasons that are unclear, and now will be delayed another year.

Perhaps United Utilities and Cheshire East need to speak to each other – and urgently.
