Regular readers may have read the following comment from Potholer on the Chatbox: "Has anyone noticed the terrible potholes in the middle of Coole Lane at various dangerous spots along the road?

"I have been driving along this lane assuming that the council know of them and cursing them for not repairing them quickly. There are many that are very deep and some have cones in them to warn drivers. I contacted the council abut them yesterday and was surprised to find out that they were not aware of them!

"Can I suggest that if anyone sees a deep pothole that they report it to the council via the highways link as I imagine we have all been thinking some one else must be reporting them, when in fact no one has."

Mystery

The mystery, of course, is that some potholes have cones in them yet the council say they know nothing about them. Who is the good Samaritan driving around and popping large cones in potholes. Something fishy here – hence the reappearance of our favourite pothole photo!

It appears that a number of people have also spoken to borough councillor Rachel Bailey about the state of that road. She has confirmed that a Highways team was visiting Coole Lane yesterday. We suspect they will be astonished by what they see with most drivers now having to drive along the centre, and on occasions the wrong side, of the road to avoid the appalling number of potholes and broken surfaces.

The highways team did turn up, as spotted by Del who wrote: "Potholer, it appears your reporting has worked, to a degree anyway. I drove to Nantwich along Coole Lane today (Saturday) at 11.30 and met two pickups with yellow lights flashing and they were in fact repairing potholes. They had started at the Nantwich end.

"On my return I noted that the worst potholes had been filled as far as Austerson Old Hall which is about half way. They must have run out of tarmac! There are still some bad ones at the Audlem end that still require attention. We live in hope."

Do report all potholes and other problems as most of last year's problems have reappeared. We have been told of some major holes appearing this side of Buerton on the A525.

Reporting potholes

Potholer added a second Chatbox comment with all the vital information: "To report potholes to Cheshire East council, visit www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/ and on the left hand menus click on Transport and Travel. Then under the "Feedback" section click on "Report a highway fault".

"This takes you to an interactive map where if you zoom in on the road in question, you can drag a red flag to show where the pot hole is and describe the problem. If each time you drive along the roads you try and remember one pothole and report this when you get to a computer it won't take long for us all in the community to log many pot holes, probably several times between us and send a clear message to the council to start fixing the problem!

"If they are logged the council is obliged to fix them! Please help if you can!"
