Parish Council meeting tonight

Audlem Parish Council meet this evening in the Methodist Church Hall at 7.30pm.

Members of the public will be invited to comment on any of the items on the agenda or draw attention to matters of concern before business commences.

Amongst items to be discussed is the precept (a tax charged on each property in the parish to fund the parish council) for 2014/15. The council will also discuss the draft budget for 2014/15 and discuss a Small Grant Policy covering future grants and donations to local groups and organisations.

Three applications for grants are on the agenda by Audlem Scout Group, Audlem Carnival and the Parish Plan Community Projects Committee who want to install electronic Public Information Displays in a number of shops to help promote local events etc.

The parish council will discuss its reaction to the second Planning Application for Land East of Heathfield Road / Mill Lane and a report from its Planning Working Group.

Under the Localism Act, there is a 'community right to bid' for assets.The Community Right to Bid gives community groups a fairer chance to prepare and bid to buy community buildings and facilities that are important to them. This could include their village shop, pub, community centre, children's centre, allotments or library. The right covers private as well as public assets.

Local authorities are required to keep a list of all of these 'assets of community value'. If an owner of a listed asset wants to sell it they have to notify the local authority. The local authority then, in turn, has to notify any interested parties. If local groups are interested in buying the asset they have 6 months to prepare a bid to buy it before the asset can be sold.

The agenda includes the appointment of a working group to produce a list of 'community right to bid' assets.
