Oops – Staff do well in Lord C Sweepstake!

The World Cup reached its climax on Sunday and with the half time whistle came the revealing of who had what team in the Lord Combermere's Sweepstake. I must make it clear that at this point I had little involvement in the organisation of the sweepstake – this was kindly done by a couple of regulars, thanks Ron and Jimmy.

As the envelopes were handed out there was some excitement behind the bar as Dan, a member of the Lord C team opened his envelope and discovered he had Spain. At this point he knew he had won something, but not how much as the game had not reached a conclusion.

Many others opened their envelopes and no other winners were initially identified, until I was passed mine. At this point I discovered I had the Netherlands ( I can still hear the good humored shouts of Fix ringing in my ears).

A short while later Nat, another member of the team arrived and opened her envelope – yes she had Germany winning her 3rd prize. I did the decent thing and spent my winnings on a round for those in the bar who had bought a ticket.

All is not lost though, we still have one prize remaining and there are no members of staff involved so at least one customer will win, even if it is only 4th prize.

Thanks to all those who took part and added an extra bit of fun to the world cup and thanks again to those who helped organise the sweepstake.
