NWAS wishes safe Celebrations

As the festive season kicks into high gear, North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) urges the public to prioritise safety during their celebrations, especially on the notorious Mad Friday. Traditionally one of the busiest nights for emergency services, Mad Friday, falling on 15 December, is known for increased alcohol consumption and heightened partying, leading to a surge in incidents and accidents.

Chief Operating Officer Salman Desai emphasises the importance of responsible celebrations: While we understand the desire to make the most of the festive period, it's crucial that everyone takes steps to ensure their own safety and the safety of others. We want people to enjoy themselves, but it's equally important to be mindful of the potential risks and act responsibly.

In the spirit of promoting safety, NWAS offers the following tips for a secure and enjoyable celebration:

* Plan ahead: Arrange transportation in advance, whether it's a designated driver, public transport, or a taxi service.

* Stay hydrated: Alternate alcoholic drinks with water to stay hydrated and reduce the risk of overindulgence.

* Look out for friends: Keep an eye on your friends and make sure everyone has a plan for getting home safely.

* Know your limits: Be aware of your alcohol consumption and know when it's time to stop. Overindulgence can lead to accidents and health issues.

* Use licensed transportation: When using ride-sharing services, make sure they are licensed and legitimate.

NWAS is gearing up for the increased demand on Mad Friday and throughout the festive season.

In addition, we anticipate industrial action by junior doctors from 7 am on Wednesday, 20 December, to 7 am on Saturday, 23 December, will also add further strain on the NHS.

Salman adds, Our dedicated paramedics and staff are here to respond to emergencies, but we urge the public to be mindful of their actions to reduce the strain on our services. By taking simple precautions, everyone can contribute to a safer and happier Christmas period.
