The November ARS walk will be next saturday, the 13th, meeting at 8.30am in the car park. The walk is a 9-mile circuit taking in several summits of the Breiddon hills south of Oswestry and will be led by Tony Crowther.

The Breiddon hills are volcanic, rise to a maximum of 1199 feet, and have remains of an old iron age fort and a monument to Admiral Rodney with tremendous views of Shropshire and mid-Wales

We park at the Admiral Rodney Pub at the foot of the Brieddens Hills near to Crew Green. The intention is to scale as many Brieddens as we can so we will start with Bausley Hill followed by Kempsters then Bulthy, Middletown, Moel y Golfa and then on to Rodneys Pillar itself

The highest point is Moel y Golfa at 404m followed by Rodneys Pillar at 365m and Middletown Hill at 364m, and since we start and finnish at 65m a bit of up hill is required

It will be wet underfoot so please be prepared – if the weather is very wet we can just walk up and down Rodneys Pillar as an alternative.

This is a good walk, not to be missed, with fabulous views and very dog friendly. It has a 4 boot rating as it's strenuous at times with four steep inclines and the conditions underfoot.

It should take about 5 hours and the option of bacon butties has been organised at the start which is about one hour's drive away.
