Audlem Parish Council is not going to apply for Dog Control Orders for the village playing fields, despite paying £342 for new dog signs.

Councillor Heather Jones told a meeting of Audlem Parish Council that there could be a problem in policing any Control Orders.

"There is little point in having Dog Control Orders if we cannot follow up on them," she told councillors.

There was no comment from other councillors as they approved the spending of £324 on printing and erecting the playing field signs.

Dog Control Orders would have given the Parish Council powers to impose fines of up to £1,000 on owners who allow their pets to foul the playing field and fail to clean up the mess.

Councillors did not consider the deterrent effect that Dog Control Orders might bring or that the general public might have more confidence in reporting irresponsible pet owners if there were powers to impose penalties.

Councillors will rely on the signs alone to persuade owners who use the field to walk their dogs to clean up any mess left by their pets.
