These are excerpts from the weekly school newsletter:

Delightful Displays and Wonderful Work!

This week I have had the pleasure of visiting several classes, seeing a range of super work and effort right across school. From playscripts based on Romeo and Juliet to artwork based on the work of Andy Goldsworthy and Autumn poems children have really shone in their enthusiasm and imaginative ideas.

Ruby class treated parents and carers to a wonderful class assembly yesterday. It was based on their Tudor topic and included singing, battle re-enactments and an amazing amount of facts about life in the Tudor times. Thanks to Miss Johnson and the children for bringing this period of history to life for us all!

As part of their Tudor topic, Ruby class visited a Tudor House called Ford Green Hall during the week, learning about the differences between Tudor homes and our modern homes. They were also taking part in workshops, learning about the lives of Tudor people in a hands on way. I am sure they will get lots more great ideas and information from this experience!

Phonics sessions

Several parents joined our phonics sessions in Amethyst class on Monday and Wednesday this week, as a follow up to our recent parent meetings about phonics teaching in school. Feedback from those parents who attended was very positive as the sessions gave them an opportunity to see how phonics is taught in school and ideas about how they can support their child at home. We have more sessions planned for EYFS parents next week.

Nantwich Foodbank

Our School Council met this week to discuss a special project that Nantwich Foodbank are organising to help families over the Christmas period. They prepared a letter for families about the project and how we are helping in school, which was sent out earlier this week in school bags. Please look out for it. Our busy School Council are also planning a pyjama day on Friday 15th November to support Children in Need.

'Family' Active Audlem

Thank you to all of the parents and carers who joined us for our first 'Family' Active Audlem session on Wednesday. Despite the miserable weather, the children really enjoyed this event and we plan to arrange further opportunities for families to join us for this in the coming months.

Sports

Our sport superstars have had a busy week in school. Wednesday evening saw Mr Griffiths taking our Girls Football team to take part in a tournament at Crewe Alex Soccer Centre. The girls played really well in very wet weather conditions and represented school superbly, winning five and drawing one of their group matches which made them winners of their group. They then played a 'round robin' against other group winners and managed to finish second overall. A great achievement, well done to all involved!

Our Boys Football team are playing at Nantwich Town Football Club in the quarterfinals of the Nantwich Autumn Cup Competition. Good luck to you all.

FASA

Many thanks to everyone who attended our FASA meeting yesterday. FASA are very busy planning school's involvement in the Big Switch On on 28th November and our Christmas Fair on 6th December. There will be an old uniform rail at the Christmas Fair for parents to purchase items from.

Any donations of old uniform for this rail can be sent into the school office between and now and the fair. Please look out for more information about both of these events and how you can support this group's fabulous work.

Bonfire Colouring Competition

Congratulations Ellis Haycock in Year 1 who won the colouring competition we sent out before half term and had the privilege of lighting the bonfire and fireworks at last Saturday's Bonfire and Fireworks show in Audlem. Well done Ellis!

Christingle Service

The annual Christingle Service will be held at St James' Church on Sunday 1st December at 4pm. This service is designed for families and as part of the service, children make their own Christingle to take home. Church will provide all that is needed to make the Christingle. I hope many of our families are able to attend this special service.

Whole School Book Signing Event

You may remember our work on the wonderful book 'Who Ate My Roof' which children in school wrote and illustrated with Sonia Kay to raise funds for the church roof project. We are now working with Sonia to organise a record breaking attempt at a whole school book signing of the books including an opportunity for families to buy 'signed' copies of the book in advance of Christmas.

We are planning for this special event to take place on the afternoon of Thursday 5th December, I will let you know further details closer to the time once they are finalised.
