Happy New Year – Welcome Back!

Happy New Year, I hope your Christmas was wonderful and 2016 has started well for you all.
We have had a busy first week back in school with all of the children returning to start new topics in their classes. Each class teacher has sent out a class information letter about the work your child will be covering this term, I hope you find these useful.

This week's Praise Book children are:
Mrs Hayward's Class – Aidan Bugeja
Miss Danha's Class – Elliot Howe
Mrs Richardson's and Mr Morrey's Class – Benji Cole
Mrs Stoker's Class – Rebecca Marshall
Mr Perry's Class – Immogen McCool
Mrs Bird's Class – Molly Sullivan
Congratulations to you all!

We begin our new term with four new Team Captains. Jake Gardiner (Lime), Jenna Gavin (Oak), Riley Capewell (Rowan) and James Cottrell (Alder) are our new Year 6 Captains. I am sure they will do a terrific job leading their teams and that all of the children will be trying hard to earn points for their teams this term. Good luck everyone!

Prayers to Share this week - We give thanks for the time shared with loved ones during the Christmas break.

Tidy Team -The winning class this week is Pearl class – well done!

The winners of our Attendance Cup this week are Pearl and Ruby- well done!

School Dinner Menu – We will be serving week 2 menu next week

FASA

Thank you to all of the families who have donated to our Rag Bag Bin. Remember, any old clothes, shoes or covers that are donated are converted to money for school resources – your support with this is much appreciated. Please put all donations (in bags) in the Rag Bag Bin at the main entrance gate.

ABC Childcare

A reminder that ABC are once again working with school to offer a range of after school clubs for children at our school this half term. Please call ABC on 01270 669050 for more information. These clubs will run alongside clubs offered by school.

Diary Dates for Spring Term

I am attaching this term's diary dates for your information. As you can see there are many events planned for the term. Further information about some of these events will be sent home closer to the time.

Nantwich Education Partnership – Internet Safety Training for Parents

A reminder that our Partnership have organised an Internet safety workshop for parents to take place on Thursday 14th January from 6.30pm at Willaston Primary Academy. The workshop will last approximately 1 hour. No children are permitted to attend the workshop, as sensitive issues will be discussed. Please let Mrs Howard or Mrs Taylor in our school office know if you are able to attend so we can let the host school know expected numbers. We are sending out a letter with further information about this meeting in school bags today – please look out for this.

Winter Weather

Despite the unusually mild weather we have experienced over Christmas, the weather over the coming term is likely to become colder and there has been a distinct drop in temperature in the last couple of days. As we begin the new term, please ensure that the children are suitably dressed for the playground as it is important that they get outside during breaks. Hats, scarves and gloves, as well as a warm coat are necessary.

We would also ask that on snowy days children come to school in boots and bring a change of shoes to wear inside so they are able to have fresh air breaks without getting their indoor shoes wet. Please ensure that all clothing is clearly marked with your child's name. As you know, we make every effort to keep the school open during snow and ice weather conditions but sometimes I have to make the decision to close the school for the safety of your children. In the event of a school closure local radio stations will be contacted and we will also aim to put a message on our school website and onto the message board on our school phone system. A text message will also be sent out to all parents on our Parentmail database. It is imperative in icy conditions that we all work together and are responsible for our own safety in the ice and snow and for the safety of children when they are walking into school. I would like to remind you of school's gritting plan.
In the event of icy weather our Caretaker, Mrs Naden, will grit identified pathways and parents and children must use these routes for their own safety. There will be a gritted path from the main gate to the main entrance and around the perimeter of the main building up to the Highfield Drive entrance. Please note the Heathfield Road playground entrance gate will remain locked on these occasions.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your support and understanding during the remaining winter months.

Waterbottles

Drinking water throughout the day helps to hydrate us and keep our brains working. We encourage all children to drink fresh water during the day to help with this. Children are to bring water only in these bottles.
We have 2 water points for water bottles to be regularly refilled. Please help us with this by ensuring your child has a named water bottle with them each day.

Reception New Starters September 2015

Do you have a child, or know a child locally, who is due to start school in September 2015? Remember the
deadline for admission applications is next week – Friday 15th January.

School Menu Updates

As you are aware, Mrs Hayward, our school cook, is constantly reviewing her menus and takes great pride in the service she offers to our children. She has been canvassing our children's opinions about the current menu choices and has made some tweaks and amendments based on children's feedback to make the food offered each day even more tempting! The updated menu for school dinners has been put onto our school website – please take time to look through this with your child.

Finally

As we begin our new term I would like to thank the many parents and relatives who have contacted me with feedback about our wonderful Christmas events and about school life in general. We really value all of your feedback. By continuing to work together we can ensure our school continues to be a wonderful place to be.
