New white lines in village

Audlem woke up yesterday to find new while lines being painted through the village centre.

One wag immediately speculated that this must mean the road is to be resurfaced very shortly!

Indeed, the large 'Keep Clear' marking outside the fire station is precisely where United Utilities were to build a new sewer and manhole. That work was due to start two years ago with half the road closed for many weeks – many will remember the large information truck that was parked in the village to advise us of that work.

Sadly, the work was put off...and off... and off. Unfortunately, many residents have complained recently of a strong whiff in the area and, on several previous occasions, the pavement, and indeed the road itself, has collapsed as a result of the problem sewer.

The sewers from the Moseleys Yard development were also to be properly attached to the main sewer, a job that should have been completed years ago. We understand that work is yet to be carried out.

Many argued that the road should have been resurfaced fully after building Moseleys Yard as the developers dug up the road and pavement on a number of occasions. There has been patching since but, as yet, the job hasn't been done properly.

Perversely, given past experience, painting new white lines might show something is about to happen. We will push United Utilities to see whatever happened to the sewer work promised two years ago – and when the promised work is to take place.
