Police Funding

I have welcomed news of a substantial £450 million increase in police funding across England and Wales.

This includes up to an additional £270 million in police force budgets, so individual forces have the resources they need to respond to changes in demand. Police funding in Cheshire could increase by up to £5.2 in 2018/19 as a result of these changes.

The first responsibility of government is to keep our country and its citizens safe, and to protect our way of life and our values. Over the past seven years crime has fallen by more than a third across the country, but we know there is more to do. That's why we are putting in this additional investment to help Cheshire Police keep people safe in our community. I hope some of this money will be used to put more police back on our streets in Winsford.

NHS Investment this Winter

Extra support has been given to the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as the Department of Health recognises the extra pressures on health services at this time.

The Countess of Chester will receive over £1.7 million while Mid Cheshire NHS Trust is gaining over £1.6 million.

I am very pleased to see the news that our local NHS will receive extra funding over the next few months. It is of course right that we continue to increase NHS spending more generally to meet rising demand but it is particularly important at this time of year.

We can be very proud of the first class health services that we have access to in Cheshire but it is right that our dedicated and hardworking doctors, nurses and staff in the NHS are well equipped to maintain their high standards.

Useful Numbers

Over Christmas it can be difficult to know who to contact in case of an emergency. For a handy list to print out and stick on your fridge follow this link:

I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2018.
