Debate on Syria

During the Emergency Debate on Syria, I fully supported the Prime Minister in her decision to intervene following the horrifying use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime.

It is in our national interest to prevent the further use of chemical weapons in Syria and to uphold and defend the global consensus that these weapons should not be used. We cannot allow the use of chemical weapons to become normalised either within Syria, on the streets of the UK or elsewhere.

The UK, in partnership with our allies are determined to do our utmost to help resolve the conflict in Syria. That means concluding the fight against Daesh and working to enable humanitarian access. The UK has already committed almost £2.5 billion, our largest ever response to a single humanitarian crisis.

Poor Mobile Coverage

I continue to raise the issue of poor mobile coverage with Ofcom who issued reassurances in a letter. You can access the letter here.

If you experience problems with mobile phone coverage, you can raise your complaint directly with your mobile phone company. If your complaint remains unresolved after eight weeks, it can be escalated to the Ombudsman who can be contacted by using the following details: obenquiries@os-communications.org; by phone 0330 440 1614; or by post at PO BOX 730, Warrington WA4 6WU

Stamp Duty and Land Tax Statement

The Government announced at autumn Budget 2017 that they were introducing stamp duty relief for first-time buyers, unlocking invaluable support for first-home buyers up and down the country.

During the ministerial statement on Stamp Duty and Land Tax, I asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury and Paymaster General, the Rt Hon Mel Stride MP the following:

"Hundreds of families in my constituency have benefited from Help to Buy, and I very much welcome the changes in stamp duty. How many people in the north-west have benefited from those changes?"

I was delighted to be informed that 6,900 individuals have so far benefited from stamp duty relief between 22 November and 31 March this year.
